Rev. Gregory Freeman


      Pastor Freeman was born in Columbus, Ohio and baptized at the age of 7 years old at the Calvary Tremont Baptist Church.  He moved with his parents to Akron, Ohio and attended the Akron Public Schools.  He joined a Baptist Church in Akron, Ohio and worked in several ministries; the youth group and youth usher board.  He went away to Toledo, Ohio where he attended the University of Toledo and was very active, most noted for being selected to the Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated along with several other organizations.  He received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education degree.  While in Toledo Pastor Freeman became a Deacon and was ordained in 1993; he was very active with many ministries.  He moved back to the Akron area and in 1998 accepted the call to preach. 

     On September 5, 1999 he preached his trial sermon and was licensed.  He later became an Associate Minister and served as Youth Pastor. In December, 2002, during his tenure as Youth Pastor, Rev. Freeman was ordained under the leadership of Dr. I.T. Bradley, former Pastor of Second Baptist Church in Akron, Ohio.

      In 2006, Pastor Freeman served in the capacity of Interim Pastor for two years at the Mount Olive Baptist Church and in 2008 he served as Interim Pastor at St. Luke Church for nearly two years.  Pastor Freeman served the Blackhorse Baptist Church as Interim Pastor in 2010 for one year before the congregation voted to make him their Senior Pastor (January, 2011).  Under Pastor Freeman’s leadership, Blackhorse has not only grown numerically but also spiritually.  Pastor Freeman has provided great leadership, trained new leaders, ordained deacons and organized the Trustees ministry.  Pastor Freeman has brought a dynamic and energetic style of worship to Blackhorse. We are a body of believers who eagerly strive to love each other like Christ loves us, we care about those in need and we serve our fellow man in the surrounding community.  Pastor Freeman was saluted as one of Akron’s Significant African Americans for 2000.  He is married to his lovely wife of twenty-two years Sherice.
